There are a lot of MC’s with the name “Big” associated with them. The most famous one of course is Biggie Smalls but this post is about “Big” Pun and “Big” L, who were both just as skilled as The Notorious One. All great artists will admit they draw inspiration from someone that came before them. I see a lot of Kool G. Rap in Big Pun and Big L. They were both amazing with the “flow” and riding beats with perfection. So, to keep this brief who was the better MC in regard to Big Pun and Big L? Who had the more potent lyrics, songs and guest appearances in your opinion?
When I think of Big Pun, the song “BEWARE” from his debut Capital Punishment always comes to mind. As for Big L, his 98’ Freestyles Part 1 and Part 2 are my go to tracks. Of course if you would like to hear where Jay-Z was obviously influenced by Big L, go listen to their 1995 Freestyle which is legendary now. Unlike Big L, Big Pun does have a monumental album under his belt which somewhat gives him a small edge. Big L’s debut Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous was very good, but it wasn’t Capital Punishment.
Its common knowledge that many 90’s MC’s in New York were hesitant to get on tracks with Big Pun or Big L. They were just so vicious and potent. On YouTube there is an interview with NAS speaking on Big L and he says after hearing Big L for the first time, “Man, that’s who I have to compete with?” That was during a time when great MC’s were celebrated, feared, and respected. If you don’t want to compare these two giants, just provide Da Dome with your feedback and thoughts about each of our fallen soldiers. #RIP

I honestly think that big pun is a monster and untouchable lyricist, but that's all. Big L got a better Flow, smoothest, harder delivery and punchlines...LODPAD for me is equal to Capital Punishment, but Pun's second album wasn't that good, while the big picture is for me even better than L's first album. They're both goats, in my top 10.but L was slightly superior for me.
