I tell you, it's easy to hate some people. George Zimmerman is a scumbag who was fortunate enough to have an out of touch jury that allowed him to escape a second-degree murder charge. Zimmerman fatally shot a then 17 year old Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Florida on February 26, 2012. This case still evoke an emotion of frustration that I will not go into detail about on this date.
The case would become highly publicized as the incident highlighted racial disparities within many communities, and how Black children are often perceived as threatening and dangerous. You know, the narrative that many of us have been forced to leave with for generations as a result of media manipulation and racism. The Trayvon Martin case put RACE back front and center again and forced America to face it's ugly demons.
Earlier this year, Jay-Z and The Weinstein Company announced they would be creating a 6-part series, "Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story" that would chronicle the life of Trayvon through his shooting by Zimmerman and the eventual acquittal. The documentary is set up in the same way they covered the life, arrest, jail time, and suicide of Kalief Browder. Browder was a young man who was put in Prison at the age of 16, who spent three years locked up, at times in solitary confinement. At your leisure, check out the details of his case.
During the shooting of the production, Zimmerman alleged to The Blast that a production team showed up unexpectedly to his home and "harassed" members of his family for on-camera interviews. From my research, I haven't seen facts to back up Zimmerman's stance at this time. From what I did gather, his ex-wife was paid to partake in the documentary, due to all of this, Zimmerman has threatened to "beat Jay-Z" and feed him to "an alligator."
He told the publication (The Blast), "I know how to handle people who f**k with me, and I have since February 2012," referencing the night he fought and killed Trayvon. This coward is beyond ridiculous. The overall fate of the project is currently in limbo due to the scandal with Harvey Weinstein and other legal matters from what I've read.
