I tell you what, the first time I heard "Soul Searching" on Higher Learning Soundtrack (Movie) back in 1995 I fell in love with the sound of Meshell Ndegeocello. She instantly reminded me of a female version of Prince.
Yes, that is a HUGE compliment. Don't get me wrong, I'd heard her song "Dred Loc" on the radio a few years earlier and I thought it was cool. After hearing "Soul Searching", I started researching all of the music she had released up to that point and it was a treat. Meshell has a way with words and an incredible voice whether she is singing or talking through the speakers. She has a sensual and sexy vibe that illuminates.
If you aren't familiar with this amazing artist, please check her out. If you are, what are your favorite songs and albums? I listed a few songs to start with if you are new to the great Meshell Ndegeocello. Oh yeah, she is one of my overall favorite artist now.
A few recommendations:
1. "Soul Searching"
2. "Outside Your Door"
3. "Call Me"
4. "Rush Over"
5. "Dred Loc"
As for albums, I like all of her albums but you can start with her 1993 debut Plantation Lullabies and just go through her discography from there.
