Former NBA Star Brandon Roy transitioned from one of the best players in the NBA to the 2017 National High School Coach of the Year. On Monday March 20th, Roy was awarded the Naismith's Coach of the Year award. Roy's team is Nathan Hale High located in Seattle, Washington. and this season ended with a perfect record of 29-0. There was backlash over the past few years of Roy recruiting the top players in the area but if we are being honest, Coaches on all levels do the same thing. Show me a powerhouse High School team and I guarantee you all players aren't from the school district. At any rate, these kids are the State Champions. Brandon Roy has life after the NBA and hopefully more former pros will do the same thing.

YES! I believe you will get THE BEST from the kid when you've been a pro. The kid know that you already achieved the DREAM that they have. I'd like to see it a lot more. I would like to see it more in College and Training as well. Kids know you played college ball so that carries weight.
I would love to see more NBA players take this route. How cool would it be to have a coach who was as talented as he is. I believe a disconnect exists when you have great players who can flat out ball - but a coach who has not played at a high level (siddnote: I believe the same as it relates to training basketball players... But I digress).
Much props to BRoy... I believe in a way he could be pioneering a NEEDED movement.
